Things to Do In the San Gabriel Valley.

4/13/2021 (Permalink)

At SERVPRO San Gabriel. We are part of our community and love to share some of what makes our city so special.

Though it features on almost every list of top LA Asian restaurants, the San Gabriel Valley is definitely a lesser-known area in the Los Angeles County. The SGV, an acronym locals often use, encompasses 31 diverse and unique cities and has something for everyone. While grabbing a cup of delicious boba and eating an amazing meal is a must, there is plenty of hiking, shopping, and more to experience.

Rose Bowl Flea Market:

Search for hidden treasure and vintage finds every second Sunday of the month at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. There are over 2,500 vendors and endless bits and bobs for sale at one of America’s best flea markets.

The Huntington Library, Art Collection, and Botanical Gardens:

Get away from the infamous traffic and concrete jungle of LA and step into the beautiful, nature-filled gardens of the Huntington Library. The gardens, with names ranging from ‘The Desert Garden’ to ‘The Japanese Garden,’ are made up of plants collected from all over the world

Night Market:

If you only have one night to get a taste of what the SGV has to offer, the 626-night market brings together all its amazing food in one area. The night market is only held on three weekends during the summer and is modeled after Taiwan’s famous night markets. Interspersed between the food that is cooked right in front of you are stalls full of all different types of merchandise and entertainment, including live music, fashion shows, and more. While the lines might be long, the fresh lamb skewers and stinky tofu are as authentic as it gets.

San Gabriel Mission:

Mission San Gabriel Arcángel is a Roman Catholic mission and historic landmark in San Gabriel, California. The settlement was founded by Spaniards of the Franciscan order on "The Feast of the Birth of Mary," September 8, 1771, as the fourth of what would become twenty-one Spanish missions in California.

Our team at SERVPRO San Gabriel not only work in San Gabriel. We live, play and raise our families here.

Making Sure Your Family Is Prepared for Severe Weather

1/25/2019 (Permalink)

Preparing for severe weather is always a good idea. Even though we may have advanced warning for some types of severe weather, there are also those occasions where severe weather can catch us off-guard.

Fortunately, there are things you can do and safety tips to follow that will ensure your family is prepared for any type of severe weather occurrences.

Creating a Family Emergency Plan

An important way to stay ahead of the weather is to have an established family emergency plan put together and ready.

If you have already established an emergency plan with your family, make sure that it is reviewed and discussed regularly, especially at the beginning of the various weather seasons so that everyone knows exactly what to do.

If there is not a family emergency plan in place for your family, here are some things to take into consideration when creating it:

1. The Importance of Emergency Alerts

Fortunately, it is easy to receive emergency alerts and warnings on your smartphone thanks to technology today. Alerts and warnings are literally “at your fingertips” if you have a weather app or Google on your smartphone, which allows for valuable time in severe weather situations. Radio and television also still broadcast warnings and alerts.

2. Establishing a Storm Shelter

Living in an area where tornadoes are common means you’ll want to seek shelter in the lowest part of your home, preferably a basement if you have one. If there is no basement, find an interior room on the lowest level that is away from windows and doors. There are other reasons a storm shelter is needed besides tornadoes, and by visiting ready.gov, you can learn more about those situations.

3. Planning Evacuation Routes

Put together a map of various evacuation routes and keep it handy in the event of hurricanes, floods or fires. which can force you out of your home in a hurry. Multiple routes are wise to have just in case one is impassable, and be sure to account for your pets and find out if there are places to stay with them along your route.

4. Communication in Severe Weather

Reliance on cell phones today is the common form of communication, but cell phone towers can be damaged during storms and batteries will die when there is no power to recharge them. Your family will need an emergency communication plan in place. Also, designate a safe meeting place for your family, so that you can all meet there if separated.

If a storm does cause damage to your home or business, don’t hesitate to call your friends at SERVPRO® of San Gabriel to get the cleanup and restoration process started.

SERVPRO of San Gabriel franchise specializes in Mold Remediation and Water Damage clean up. In today's blog we will be leaving a few tips on how you can prevent mold, Fungi, Mildew, or Micro-organism growth in your home. Mold tend to grow in darker areas, where light cannot reach; by allowing sunlight in, we can reduce the chances of mold. Warm and humid conditions may also increase chances of mold; according to moldpedia, mold growth expedites above 70F.

There are many ways we can prevent mold growth in the common household, like keeping humidity and condensation level low by keeping different living areas ventilated. Another way we can prevent mold growth is by checking for water leaks. If you are not sure if your pipes are leaking, you can call us to do an inspection for you. Another common way mold can grow is from wet clothes or wet furniture. Just be sure to dry your clothes thoroughly before placing in laundry pile if your clothes are wet.

Drying-Machines

7/9/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of San Gabriel is a professional water restoration company, and we specialize in mold remediation, and water mitigation. One strategy we use for drying the common household is by placing machines in the contained area to create conditions that will both filter the air and dehumidify the effected area. The three machines that we most commonly use are Air Movers, Dehumidifiers, and Negative-Air Scrubber.

After mold is physically removed from its source, the air should be cleaned of airborne mold spores using HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) air scrubbers and air exchange (i.e. replacing dirty moldy air with clean fresh air through simple ventilation or more sophisticated negative air controls for bigger jobs). Since mold excels in humid, damp areas, we will lower the humidity level of the effected area with the dehumidifier, while the Air Mover is constantly blowing at the wet materials, so that the water molecules will be released into the air, to be sucked in by the dehumidifier. The air-scrubber is to 'scrub' the air. It will filter through all the mold spores and other pollutants that may still be in the air.
